Research Interests

His research focuses on the   response and regulation of force, acoustics, optics, electricity, magnetism   and heat in engineered metamaterials based on artificial microstructure   design. His main research directions include cement-based metamaterials,   bionic structural materials, photothermal functional materials, intelligent   building materials, ultra-light aerogels and extreme environment protection   materials. He devotes himself to the integrated design of structural bearing,   energy regulation and environmental response functions of engineering   materials.

1. Cement-based Metamaterials and   Multi-field Coupling Regulation

Novel cement-based   metamaterials with artificial microstructures are developed. Through   cross-scale structural design, the collaborative regulation of mechanical,   thermal, optical and acoustic responses is realized, breaking the performance   limits of traditional engineering materials and promoting the   functionalization, intellectualization and high added value of building   materials.

2. Bionic Structural Materials and   Advanced Porous Materials

Drawing on the construction   principles of multi-scale ordered structures in nature, he develops bionic   structural materials, ultra-light aerogels and porous metamaterials, and   reveals the formation mechanism of structures and evolution law of   properties. The coordinated optimization of lightweight, high strength,   thermal insulation, fire resistance and protection performance is achieved.

3. Photothermal Metamaterials and   Building Energy Regulation

Aiming at building energy   conservation and the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, he conducts   researches on radiative cooling, solar energy utilization, intelligent   thermal management and building thermal environment regulation. The precise   regulation of photo-thermal transmission is realized via artificial   microstructure design, and a new system of low-carbon building functional   materials is established.

4.Academic Positions

Editor of Journal of Building Engineering (Q1 Top Journal in JCR). He   has long served as a reviewer for projects funded by the National Natural   Science Foundation of China, as well as for top international journals   including Nature Sustainability, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials   and Cement and Concrete Research.
